There’s something truly enchanting about a real Christmas tree. It’s not just a decoration; it’s a symbol of life, renewal, and the magic of the season. I remember as a child, the moment my Dad brought the tree into our home, the fresh scent of pine filled the air, awakening cherished memories and setting the stage for new ones.

A real Christmas tree carries for me a sense of tradition and connection to nature. Its evergreen branches remind me of resilience and hope, even in the heart of winter.

For centuries, the tree has been seen as a "tree of life," symbolizing growth, vitality, and the promise of new beginnings and that is exactly what it does for me.

Decorating the tree is where the magic truly comes alive. I loooove it and it is so special to me. First, I set the stage with no other plans that day, light music in the background and, if any way possible, it is done on a day when there is cookie baking activities going on in the kitchen. It's like a ceremony. :) I start with weaving strings of lights through the branches, it's the beginning of a warm glow that feels like a hug for our home. And then come the ornaments ... oh the ornaments ...each one tells a story—whether it’s a handmade treasure, a souvenir from a memorable trip, or an heirloom passed down through generations. It's a walk down memory lane and I enjoy every minute of it. The tree becomes a living memory board, reflecting the love and joy of our family’s journey.

But also let’s not forget the simple beauty of the tree itself. I usually go to a tree farm and walk through the rows of trees. I feel like waiting until the right tree is calling me and it always does. It is so much fun and when I finally choose the 'right 'tree I am always happy with it. I never had a tree I didn't love.

Fresh trees are just so beautiful. No two are ever the same, each one unique in its imperfections and personality. Whether it’s a tall, full Fraser fir or a charmingly quirky Charlie Brown tree, each Christmas tree has its own character, adding to the magic it brings.

Caring for your real tree is a way of nurturing that magic. Of course, it takes a little bit more than just putting it in a stand and dragging it back into the basement after the season, but it is all part of my magical time. Giving it water, keeping it in the right spot, and treating it gently, you’re honouring its role in your celebrations. It’s a reminder to slow down and appreciate the natural beauty around us, even in the busiest season of the year.

When Christmas fades into memory, and it’s time to take the tree down, it’s not the end—it’s a continuation of its story. Many communities offer tree recycling programs, turning your tree into mulch or compost to nourish the earth. In this way, the tree of life truly gives back, completing its circle of magic and renewal.

So, this holiday season, take a moment to soak in the beauty and meaning of your real Christmas tree. Let its fresh scent and vibrant presence remind you of the joy, hope, and wonder that make Christmas so special. And as you gather with loved ones around its twinkling lights, may you feel the magic of the season and the deep connection it brings.

Here’s to a Christmas full of life, love, and a little extra magic—straight from the heart of a (real) tree.

And if you live in a place where it is against the rules to have a real tree, make your decoration time something special. It is all about the magic of Christmas, slowing down, love and kindness and family.

Wishing you all a wonderful season and a magical time with friends and family!
