Wizard of Oz Pompon Dahlia is one of Pamela's Faves this season...here's why:
When I see dahlias, especially pretty ones like Wizard of Oz, I’m instantly transported back to my Oma’s garden in Vancouver. Flowers can hold so many memories for all of us and Wizard of Oz evokes fond ones for me. I can’t wait to grow a few and take a lovely trip down memory lane.
These Pompon Dahlias are simply over the top just like the Wizard of Oz. Colour variation may occur offering tones of pink and peach.
Resembling those knitted balls on Grandma’s slippers, Ball & Pompon Dahlias are fully double flowers that are perfectly globe shaped. Originating from Mexico and Guatemala, these were the flowers of Inca kings and despite their royal origins Dahlias are among the easiest plants to grow in the garden.
They are a wonderful source of cut flowers and will provide a veritable cornucopia of colourful blooms for your bouquets from mid summer until the first frost. Easy to grow as they are, Dahlias are susceptible to cold so be careful not to plant them too early and be sure to dig them up after the first frost and store them in a frost-free place.
