We like to think of this one as Leucojum aestivum on steroids! Larger more robust flowers…and more of them to boot!
Oh...did we mention the slight chocolate scent they give off? That feature alone may be the one to seal the deal! These European wild flowers are very frost resistant. They are best planted in groups of at least 15 bulbs as the will put on a spectacular flowering display when naturalized in large drifts. Plant them in rock gardens or beneath deciduous trees. Summer snowflake is a classic old timey bulb, passed between gardeners for centuries. They are often seen persisting in old cemeteries or abandoned homesteads. Summer snowflakes have been cultivated as ornamentals in Europe since at least the 1500's.
