Commonly called Summer Snowflake, these beautiful flowers naturalize well even in damper soils making them a great choice next to ponds and streams. At 12 inches tall with 3 or more flowers per stem it’s also an ideal cut flower.
These European wild flowers are very frost resistant. They are best planted in groups of at least 15 bulbs as the will put on a spectacular flowering display when naturalized in large drifts. Plant them in rock gardens or beneath deciduous trees. Summer snowflake is a classic old timey bulb, passed between gardeners for centuries. They are often seen persisting in old cemeteries or abandoned homesteads. Summer snowflakes have been cultivated as ornamentals in Europe since at least the 1500's.
