'Australis' has the deepest burgundy coloured foliage we've ever seen, it's easy to see why it's called a Black Leaf Canna. Topped with brilliant red flowers it’s a dramatically striking plant!
Cannas are becoming a very popular summer garden plant. They do particularly well in pots and containers. Cannas love full sun but due to their tall height require protection from strong winds. Plant them 12 in - 30 cm apart in rich, moist soil and make sure to add generous amounts of compost and manure. In most Canadian zones the rhizomes must be lifted before the first frost and stored in a frost-free place. Clean and divide before replanting.
