Amaryllis belladonna is happiest in well drained soil that is warm and dry in the late summer. It is deer and rodent resistant and loves being planted in containers or garden beds.
Commonly known as Magic or Resurrection Lily, Amaryllis belladonna is native to South Africa. It enjoys moderately fertile, well drained soil and is often cultivated for its showy flowers. It sends up strap like leaves in the spring which die back in summer. In the fall, 6 to 12 light to dark pink, fragrant blossoms appear on naked stems. Where not hardy try growing in a cool greenhouse.
