Golden Splendour Trumpet Lily is one of Wendy's Faves this season. Here's what she has to say:
Even when you close your eyes you will know you are next to this shockingly pretty, vibrantly golden yellow, Trumpet Lily. The fragrance is strong and spicy and will waft around the garden in the heat of summer on a warm breeze. Plant a little deeper, in full sun, and well drained soil to have the strongest stems and flowers for years to come.
Deep golden yellow, trumpet shaped blooms with maroon shading on the reverse side make Golden Splendour a splendid addition to your garden. The height of the stem and sturdiness of this bulb will increase over the years as will the spicy fragrance.
More tubular in shape, these lilies resemble splayed trumpets and will produce long flowers up to 8 in – 20 cm long. They are intoxicatingly fragrant and will continue grow in height from season to season so be sure to plant them where they will be protected from strong winds. They prefer a rather heavy soil with an ample supply of humus and good drainage. Remove faded flowers and do not cut back stems until autumn. Bulbs should not be lifted but left in the soil to bloom annually for many years.
